THAI THAI THAILANDDD
We landed in Phuket excited for a couple days of relaxing. Vietnam was a trip of constant movement and experience, which was amazing, but we were tired. The journey didn’t start off great with a frustrating taxi and check-in process, but after all that, we were in Thailand! First thing we did? Food. Duh.
I had my first green curry of the trip! Thank god. I had really been looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. Spoiler alert: I ended up having curry for lunch and dinner everyday during our time in Thailand. I already miss it.
We stayed by Karon Beach and it was absolutely amazing. The water was warm and calm, and there were masseuse’s and fruit vendors as far as the eye could see – it was my heaven. We experienced our chill first day, and then took a tour of the Phi Phi Islands the second. While here we got to snorkel, listen to good music, and do a lot of really really good people watching.
Next it was time for the “serious asian city” as Benjamin Rosenzweig put it. People aren’t kidding when they say Bangkok is crazy. We had a lot of fun here but it was definitely a change in pace from Phuket. Our first morning, we woke up early and went on a temple tour. It was seriously jaw-dropping and, personally, I think we should go back to building things like that. My one complaint: our tour guide said it was winter weather but it was a sizzling 95 degrees outside. So not cool.
After our temple tour, we bopped around exploring for a bit before taking our first tuk tuk home to get ready for a night out on the town! Everyone says you must go to Khao San street when you are in Bangkok, so we did. Oh my lord it was so insane. There are so many people, so many scary street vendors, and so much loud music. After we felt we had received enough unsolicited creepiness, we were on our way home.
Our next day in Bangkok we started by getting an absolutely delicious breakfast from a Japanese-inspired cafe and then went to a massive 6 floor antique mall. It was extremely overwhelming. I didn’t get anything but Sara and Clara came out with some epic pieces.
Our final activity for the trip, and my favorite in Thailand, was our Thai cooking class. We had so much fun at this class and cooked an amazing four course meal of Pad Kra Pow (Stir-fried Thai Basil Chicken), Papaya Salad, Red Curry with Chicken, and Mango Sticky Rice. I absolutely slayed every dish and I will be recreating them for anyone who requests.
After that, we got our final massage of the trip (I got 5 total), and a short two hours of sleep later, we were at the airport! I had a really gross and annoying seat partner on the way home but I wasn’t going to let that ruin my trip. Once again, such an amazing experience that I am forever thankful for. Everyone should go to these places! And take me with you when you do!
Thailand Fun Fact: Bangkok is the most visited city in the world! And I went! Add me to the list!
I'll lyk when I'm headed to Bangkok and Thailand. Def want you there after these fun filled blogs!
